Playing Your Way To Learning

Language Hunting is a set of conversational games especially designed to support community language education and revitalization. Every player is a teacher, and every teacher can fluently speak the language, even at the most basic level.

One of the first aspects of Language Hunting that many people notice is its use of ASL (American Sign Language) and other gestures. Language Hunting uses signs and gesture as a bridge language between game players. While the ultimate goal is to experience and gain fluency in a spoken language, coupling visual and physical interaction of a signed language with the spoken target language provides powerful reinforcement. Through repetition and play, players become fluent in a basic conversation, beginning with the most primal conversation you can have: “What is that?”
